With Contemporary Literary Criticism users have the benefits of Internet access to extensive biographical and critical information. CLC encompasses nearly 600 significant authors. Updates occur monthly.

Discovering Collection includes thousands of overview essays, critical analyses, biographies, primary source documents and timelines for history/social studies, literature and science.

Scribner Writer's Series includes 15-20 page signed essays on more than 1,600 authors and literary genres drawn from 13 acclaimed Scribner print series.

Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.  Known as eBooks these reference materials are accessible online remotely 24/7.

Contemporary Authors for biographical information on modern novelists, poets, playwrights, nonfiction writers, journalists and scriptwriters. Sketches include personal information, critical sources, authors’ comments, and informative essays.

Home access is available to CLC, Discovering Collection, Scribner’s Writers Series and Gale Virtual Reference Library.  Stop in the Library to get the school's user name and password.

 

 

Grolier's Online
First Time Home Users Click Here...
Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia offers quick reference articles. In addition to its award-winning encyclopedia, the GME include: Brain Jam, Interactive Atlas, Interactive timelines (4000 BC to the present), Link to the Library of Congress's Today in History Web site, thousands of other Web Links, and Research Starters.

Encyclopedia Americana has over 45,000 articles. It also includes: "The American Journal", an illustrated database of news events, updated weekly / Grolier Internet Index, thousands of links to related, prescreened Web sites / Periodical articles from magazines and journals, including primary documents.


netTrekker an award-winning academic search engine that is safe, fast and easy to use for students, parents and teachers. Search results provide educator-selected online resources organized by readability level. As a subscription database it is a great resource for research projects and homework. netTrekker is available at home using the school’s username and password, available in the library.

 

Oxford University Press
Oxford Art Online Provides access to the complete text of the 34-volume Dictionary of Art, The Encyclopedia of Aesthetics and the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms. Links to images from galleries and museums from around the world are included as well as Learning Resources and timelines from MoMA.

Oxford Music Online Provides access to the complete text of the 29-volume New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, New Grove Dictionaries of Opera and Jazz, The Oxford Companion to Music and the Oxford Dictionary of Music. Links are available to musical sites on the Internet; some examples use Sibelius (music notation software.) Learning Resources are also available through this database. 

Oxford Reference Online Provides information on many subjects including general reference, language and quotations, science and medicine, humanities and social sciences, business and professions. Bilingual dictionaries provided in English/French, English/German, English/Spanish, and English/Italian.

Stop in the library to get the username and password for accessing these databases from home.
